Hi @seattle_bill,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Photosmart 8250 printer is showing an error message indicating that the ink cartridges are missing, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Check the Cartridges: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed in the printer. Open the ink cartridge access door and make sure each cartridge is securely in place.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, dust or debris can accumulate on the cartridge contacts or in the cartridge slots, preventing proper communication between the printer and the cartridges. Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water to gently clean the contacts on both the cartridges and the printer.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the printer, and wait for about 60 seconds. Then reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on. This can often reset the printer and resolve various issues, including cartridge errors.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Photosmart 8250 printer. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve compatibility issues and improve performance.
  • Replace Cartridges: If the cartridges are old or depleted, replace them with new, genuine HP cartridges. Using non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
  • Check for Obstructions: Make sure no obstructions or foreign objects are blocking the cartridge carriage or the cartridge access area.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Gaya1239,

This issue has to do with initializing a new hp photosmart 8250.  Unfortunately, the setup ink cartridges are missing and the error indicates that these are required.  Can a reboot or reset resolve this?  Can these cartridges be acquired?
