Hi @TonyC21,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you want to reset the password on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw, you can try a factory reset. This process will return the printer to its default settings, including the password.
Here’s how to do it:
Power Cycle:
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
- Wait for about 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
Reset via Control Panel:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Setup menu.
- Go to Service.
- Select Restore Defaults or Reset All Settings.
Reset via Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- Connect the printer to your network using an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.
- Find the printer’s IP address. You can usually print a network configuration page from the printer's settings menu to find this information.
- Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network and enter the printer’s IP address in the address bar.
- This will open the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Log in (if you remember the credentials), or if not, proceed to find the reset option.
- Navigate to the Settings or Security tab.
- Look for Restore Defaults or Reset options and follow the instructions.
Reset using HP Smart or HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and install HP Smart or HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website on your computer.
- Open the application and follow the instructions to connect to your printer.
- Use the software to reset your printer settings.
Hard Reset:
- Sometimes, printers have a small reset button (usually inside the printer or behind a panel). Refer to the printer manual for the exact location.
- Press and hold the reset button for a few seconds to restore factory settings.
Manual Reset Instructions:
- If none of the above methods work, refer to the printer’s user manual for specific instructions on performing a manual reset. You can often find the manual

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
