Hi @JLB1846,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Loading a scanner typically refers to preparing it for scanning documents or photos. If your printer has a built-in scanner and you’re unsure how to load your documents or photos correctly, follow these general steps. If your printer’s scanner is already set up but you need help loading the documents, here’s how to do it:

Loading Documents or Photos for Scanning

Turn On the Printer/Scanner:

  • Ensure that your printer or all-in-one device is powered on and ready to scan.

Prepare the Document or Photo:

  • Place your document or photo face down on the scanner bed. For documents, make sure they are flat and free from wrinkles. If you are scanning photos, make sure they are clean and free of dust.

Open the Scanner Lid:

  • Lift the lid of the scanner carefully. The scanner bed is usually a flat, glass surface.

Position the Document or Photo:

  • Place your document or photo in the corner of the scanner bed. Most scanners have guides or markings that help you align the document. For optimal results, align your document according to the guides to ensure it's properly positioned.

Close the Scanner Lid:

  • Gently close the lid to avoid shifting the document. Be careful not to press down too hard, as this can damage the document or the scanner.

Scanning from Your Computer or Device

Open Scanning Software:

  • On your computer, open the scanning software that came with your printer or use the built-in scanning function. Common options include HP Smart.

Select Scan Options:

  • Choose the type of scan you want (e.g., document or photo), adjust settings such as resolution or color mode, and select the destination for the scanned file.

Start the Scan:

  • Click the “Scan” button in the software. The scanner will process the document or photo, and you’ll be able to preview and save the scanned image or document to your desired location.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
