HP Smart Tank 7005 All-in-One
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Have set it all up. Wirelessly connected. Tried printing a document (pdf) but it will not print in colour. Have checked the options in presets default settings just prints in black and white, the drop down has last used, black and white, black and white draft, save currents settings as preset, show presets.  If I push show presets it just shows a menu  of the same items. Does this machine actually print in colour? I can make copies in colour from the bed. If I go to my system preferences, printers and scanners, choose the hp 7000 nothing comes up where I can change the default settings or anything. Just paper size.  How can I make this thing print in colour from my computer? UGH!

Note: I can make it print in colour from my iPhone. Same document. I would prefer to print directly from my computer and not have to send the document in messages to myself and print from my phone. Thanks!

Hi @cozycuppa,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you want to change the printing present to print in color on your HP Smart Tank 7005 Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist you better:

  • Have you tried printing any other document online or a browser to check?

While you respond to that Update the firmware

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
  • Update software on Mac

You have to change the settings on your Mac PC. Please follow the below steps:

  • Open a document that you would like to print
  • Click on File and select print or press ⌘ + P

  • You will see the print dialog box

  • Now click on the dropdown icon and make sure you select your printer ( if selected ignore this step)
  • NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the Show Details button to see all available settings.
  • Make sure you uncheck the black and white option and set as default as per your requirement

  • You may save the settings as a preset by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset
  • By doing so and completing the print job these settings will remain default till another preset will be used in the future.

If the issue still persists, then add the printer using Apple AirPrint drivers.

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6.) Try to print.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
