Hi @tysen14,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is sitting on the message “HP software is setting up your printer,” I’d like to check a few things so we can narrow this down properly.

How long has it been stuck on that screen?
Has it been a few minutes, or has it been there for a long time already?
Please also tell me:

  • The HP printer model.
  • Whether you are setting it up on Wi‑Fi, USB, or Ethernet.
  • Whether you are using a phone, Windows PC, or Mac.
  • Whether the printer is showing any lights, error messages, or blinking icons.
  • Whether the printer has already completed setup once before, or this is the first setup.

For now, please try a hard reset on the printer:

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the printer and from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back in directly to the wall.
  5. Turn the printer back on and check if it moves past the setup screen.

If it stays on that message for a long time after the reset, that usually means we need to look at the setup path, the connection type, or the printer software on the device you are using.

Send me the model and how long it has been stuck, and I’ll guide you with the next step.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
