@garyabc, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue where your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer is not recognizing the network after installing a new modem:

Why This Happens

When you install a new modem or router, your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password may change. The printer still tries to connect to the old network, which no longer exists.

Steps to Reconnect Your HP 8620 to the New Network

Restore Network Settings on the Printer

This clears the old network configuration:

  • On the printer's touchscreen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  • Confirm the reset.

Reconnect Using Wireless Setup Wizard

  • On the printer touchscreen, go to: Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • The printer will search for available networks.
  • Select your new Wi-Fi network name (SSID).
  • Enter the new Wi-Fi password using the touchscreen.
  • Once connected, the wireless light on the printer should turn solid blue.

Restart Devices

  • Restart your printer, router, and computer/mobile device.
  • Ensure all devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Print a Wireless Network Test Report (Optional)

  • On the printer, go to Setup > Reports > Wireless Test Report.
  • This can help diagnose any remaining issues.

Optional: Use the HP Smart App

If you prefer using your phone or PC:

  • Download the HP Smart app. HP Smart
  • Open the app and follow the prompts to add your printer and connect it to the new network.
