Hi @ham308, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
Your HP DeskJet 2810e printer is not working with Windows 8.1, even though it was advertised to be compatible. Since you can print from your mobile and scan directly from the printer, it means the hardware is working fine. The issue is likely due to driver incompatibility or installation problems on Windows 8.1.
Here’s how you can troubleshoot and get your printer working:
1. Manually Download and Install the Correct Driver
Since you're struggling to download the software, let's try manually downloading the correct driver:
- Go to the HP Support website: HP Software & Driver Downloads
- Search for your printer model: HP DeskJet 2810e
- Select Windows 8.1 as the operating system (if available).
- Download the Full Feature Driver and Software package.
- If there’s no Windows 8.1 driver available, try downloading the Windows 10 (64-bit) driver instead. It may still work.
2. Try Installing in Compatibility Mode
If the driver does not install properly on Windows 8.1:
- Right-click on the downloaded driver file and select Properties.
- Go to the Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for:
- Select Windows 8 or Windows 7.
- Click Apply and OK.
- Run the installer again and follow the setup instructions.
3. Install Using Windows’ Built-in Drivers
Windows 8.1 has generic printer drivers that might work:
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Click Add a printer.
- Choose The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Select Add a local printer and choose Use an existing port (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB).
- Click Windows Update (this may take a few minutes).
- Once the list updates, choose an HP DeskJet model close to yours (like HP DeskJet 2600 or 2700 series).
- Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to install.
4. Use HP Smart App Alternative (If Available)
- If HP Smart is not available on Windows 8.1, try using HP Print and Scan Doctor to detect and fix the issue.
- Download from HP Print and Scan Doctor and run it.
5. Print via Mobile & Workaround for PC Printing
Since you can print from your mobile, you could set up a Google Cloud Print alternative to print from your Windows 8.1 PC via your phone.
- Print files to PDF on your Windows 8.1 PC.
- Transfer them to your phone and print from there using HP Smart.
Let me know if you need more guidance! 😊
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨
