Hi @TGnBW
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Setting up your HP DeskJet 2742 printer with your laptop is straightforward. Here’s how to do it:
Wireless Setup (Recommended)
Prepare the Printer
- Turn on the printer.
- Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons until the Power button starts flashing.
Install HP Smart App
- Download and install the HP Smart app from HP’s support page or the Microsoft Store.
- Open the app and click Set up a new printer.
Connect to Wi-Fi
- Select your HP DeskJet 2742 from the list.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password if prompted.
- Press the Information button on the printer to confirm the connection.
Complete Setup
- Follow the on-screen instructions to finish setup.
- Print a test page to ensure everything works.
USB Setup (Wired Connection)
Connect the Printer
- Plug one end of a USB cable into the printer and the other into your laptop.
Install Drivers
- Windows should automatically detect the printer and install drivers.
- If not, download them from HP’s support page.
Set as Default Printer
- Go to Settings → Devices → Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer and click Set as default.
Let me know if you run into any issues!
