@thorntoncarl69, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're trying to enroll in the HP Instant Ink plan but are unable to proceed because you've forgotten your custom printer password. No worries, I'll guide you through the steps to reset it.

Resetting Your HP Printer's Custom Password

If you've set a custom password for your printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) or HP Smart account and can't remember it, follow these steps:

Option 1: Reset via HP Smart App (if printer is connected)

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device. HP Smart
  2. Select your printer.
  3. Go to Advanced Settings (this opens the Embedded Web Server).
  4. Navigate to Settings > Security > Administrator Settings.
  5. If prompted for a password and you don’t remember it, proceed to Option 2 below.

Option 2: Restore Printer to Factory Defaults

This will reset all custom settings including the password.

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Setup or Settings.
  2. Select Printer Maintenance or Service.
  3. Choose Restore > Restore Factory Defaults or Reset All Settings.
  4. Confirm the reset.

After the reset, the printer password will be cleared, and you can set a new one during the setup process.

Option 3: Use HP Smart to Reclaim Access

Once reset:

  1. Reconnect your printer to Wi-Fi.
  2. Open the HP Smart app and add your printer.
  3. Go to Advanced Settings to set a new password if needed.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
