Operating System: macOS 12.0 Monterey

we have an HO DeskJet Pro 6978 all in one printer.  its screen prompted us to install an available update to its firm wear.  now it will print but not scan from a Mac running OS 12.7 or another running 13.5.2.  the HP utility says that it cannot communicate with the device. all was fine before the update! any ideas? thank you so very much ellen
