My LaserJet P1102w printed just fine for years from my iMac (late 2013), as well as a MacBook and a Chrome Book. Then suddenly I started getting the "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" message on my iMac, with "ignore" or "eject" options. I can still print from the other devices.
I don't want to upgrade my OS to Catalina because it's going to trigger upgrades in other devices / software.
I've tried re-installing drivers, but then the "Add" window only sees my printer as a scanner, and I can't find any solutions that work to THAT issue.
So far, I've:
1) run First Aid
2) repaired Disk Permissions
3) rebooted in safe mode
4) Reset my printing system
5) used HP Uninstaller to remove my printers.
6) Downloaded the latest driver (5.1, Nov. 13, 2020)
7) attempted installation, which didn't work because the iMac believes the LaserJet P1102w is a scanner.
Another thread recommended using the Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One driver since there's no longer a P1102w driver available from HP.
I'd appreciate any suggestions!

@BrianL_27, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
HP has a printer driver to work on macOS 10.12 on the HP Support site and this printer is AirPrint compatible. Let us try these steps:
Uninstall the HP printer drivers as shown in this document - Uninstalling HP Printer Software
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your MAC.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on MAC
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Install the printer using AirPrint driver
Add the printer using Apple AirPrint drivers.
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
Note: Under Kind, make sure Bonjour Multifunction is selected.
6.) Try to print.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
