Hi,

I need help with my Officejet pro 8600, model n911a. After installing an original HP cartridge (950xl) it doesn't want to work. The message below appears on the screen.

Printer Failure: There is a problem with the printer or print system.

I have tried everything already. I even unplugged it for a whole month and plugged it again, nothing works. I take the inks out and put them back, nothing works.

Please help me, I don't know what to do next. Should I buy another printer? It's been years since I've had that printer.

Thanks in advance, people.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

THe Printhead is defective. Nothing else you can do to recover it (besides changing to a new one) That model is at least more than 5 years.  Perhaps it's time for an upgrade?

Possible models in the same class to consider :

1. HP OfficeJet Pro 9015

2. HP OfficeJet Pro 8025

There are also HP+ models where it offers 2 years Warranty and Ink cost savings for Instant Ink.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your help, Greenturtle. I am getting an upgrade one, but I have a question for you? Is there a place where I can send it to recycle and get some money off of it?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi,

Glad to hear that your issue is resolved and all is working well now.

Regarding question on recycling printers, not so sure about recylcing program in United States.

However, the printer models recommended are similar to what you are using currently.  There should be a 4 July sales coming up so the prices would be very attractive.

Just remember that if you're to purchase a HP+ Inkject printer, you need to Activate HP+ and enroll in the Instant Ink Plan (6 months free Ink Trial).  WIthout activating HP+ during setup and enrolling in INstant Ink plan, you would not enjoy the 2 years warranty and Ink savings.

Hello, Would replacing the ink system cartridge holder/print head fix the problem?  I found this on Amazon...

Hi @NatTheBuilder

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.  The printer imodel s already out of production and end of life  for support.

Here's my feedback:

1. Not sure on the quality of the printhead and it's expiry date since it's out of production.

2. Assuming it is ok, a fresh new set of inks would be needed to prepare the printhead for use

3. There is no guarantee that the current inks and the printhead is compatible

4. With the price of the printhead and new set of inks - might be better to consider the latest printers with updated security features and functions.

Hope that helps!
