Hi @abbasch,

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with installing your printer on Windows 10. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Does it give you any errors during installation?

For now, try these steps:

  • Please perform all the prescribed steps from this document: http://hp.care/2CU94Tw  to change a USB connection to a wireless one and check if the issue gets resolved. (HP Printers - Changing from a USB to a Wireless Connection)
  • Now check if it resolves the issue.

If it does not, then perform a root level uninstallation and reinstallation of the printer drivers by following these steps:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer, if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart or other printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Then create a new user account as an administrator from this link:http://hp.care/2rZfJBC

Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.

Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2y7AzVC  and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

This should fix the issue.

  • If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2o3acvH
  •
  • For further assistance, you try the steps from this guided troubleshooter link: http://hp.care/2CSWW4X for wireless issues to set up the printer. (HP Photosmart 5520 Printers - Wireless Printer Setup (Windows)

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
