Hi @snicker2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering issues with your HP Officejet Pro 6830 All-In-One Printer and the USB connection, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

Check USB Connection:

  • Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and your computer.
  • Try using a different USB cable to rule out the possibility of a faulty cable.
  • Connect the USB cable to a different USB port on your computer.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your computer and the printer. Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve communication issues.

Check Device Manager (Windows) or System Information (Mac):

  • On Windows, open Device Manager and check if the printer is listed without any error symbols. If there are errors, you may need to update or reinstall the printer drivers.
  • On Mac, go to "Apple menu" > "About This Mac" > "System Report" > "USB" to see if the printer is listed.

Reinstall Drivers:

  • Uninstall the existing printer software and drivers completely from your computer.
  • Download the latest drivers from the official HP website for your printer model.
  • Reinstall the drivers, following the provided instructions.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • HP provides a diagnostic tool called "HP Print and Scan Doctor" that can help identify and resolve common printing problems. Download and run this tool to check for issues.

Try Different USB Port:

  • Connect the printer to a different USB port on your computer to rule out any issues with a specific port.

Update USB Drivers:

  • Ensure that your computer's USB drivers are up-to-date. You can update them through your computer's device manager.

Check for Windows/Mac Updates:

  • Make sure your operating system is up-to-date with the latest updates and patches.

Firewall/Antivirus Software:

  • Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus software and check if the issue persists. Sometimes, security software may block printer communication.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
