Hi,
For the USB, you say that the printer is listed as LPT1, meaning this is a manual configuration and doesn't indicate the PC can see the printer.
For the USB connection, right-click the start button and select Device Manage
Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controller Section - can you see the printer listed there? meaning the PC can see the USB connection?
Please try the following steps and let me know how it goes:
- Right-click the network icon on your PC and select Open Network & internet settings.
- Click on Network and Sharing Center.
- From the side panel, click on Change advanced sharing settings.
- For the Private profile, uncheck the box next to 'Turn on automatic setup of network-connected devices'.
- Go back to the control panel and remove any instance of the printer.
- Click any print queue with the left key once, then click on Print Server Properties from the top bar.
- Within the Drivers tab, delete any HP instance, also Microsoft IPP or PCLmS Class drivers if any such is shown, be sure to select the 2nd option to remove both the driver and its package.
If any of the drivers failed to delete, restart your PC and then try removing it again (if it is still there)
Finally, download and launch the below drivers:
Now browse to C:\LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution, double-click HpSetup.exe and follow the steps to install the printer with its HP Software.
May you see any difference?

- I looked at the USB section and did not see the printer listed
-I disconnected the USB cable to the printer and reconnected the ethernet cable (the light next to the ethernet cable is flashing which, I think, indicates communication at some level); I also removed the printer from the system
- I completed steps 1 – 5 from your list, but got stuck on step 6. I still have an operational Epson printer and went to its printer properties, but I do not find any "drivers" tab there. (The tabs are general, sharing, ports, advanced, color management, security, version information). So I'm obviously misunderstanding what I'm supposed to do in this step. Please advise. Thanks!

Hi,
You shouldn't select Printer Properties, but left-click it and select Print Server Properties from the top bar, there you should see the Drivers tab.
You may also right-click the Start menu, select Run, past the following and press OK to access it:
printui.exe /s /t2

Your instruction for removing existing HP drivers (there were 3) worked perfectly. I then went through the installation of the package you had me download and used the advanced option to watch it step-by-step. It appeared to go through exactly right and found the printer on the network and successfully printed a test page. I thought that everything was finally fixed. However, I then attempted to print a calendar page out of Outlook and I saw it go into the queue, but it just sat there for several minutes – no error, but neither did it print. So I clicked on the item in the queue in order to delete it and it is been sitting there "deleting" for several minutes with nothing happening.
I restarted the system and check the queue again and the item I was deleting was in fact gone. So I attempted print a test page from the printers and scanners menu and once again it is just sitting there in the queue and nothing is happening.
I guess there's still a problem, certainly a different one from before, but I'm not sure how to proceed from this point.
Additional advice will be greatly appreciated once again.
PS: I re-examined print server properties and see "HP LaserJet professional P1606 DN", X64,type 3.

Let’s try creating a manual port and let me know if that helps.
From the Network Configuration Page, locate the printer’s IP Address.
Open the printer’s EWS page from your browser.
Open the Network tab, then select IP Settings or IPv4
Change the IP to Manual and set the current IP Address manually, with the same Subnet and Gateway as originally listed.
From your PC, open the Control Panel and select Devices and Printers.
Right-click the printer and select Printer Properties, if you see a Change Settings button, be sure to press It.
Open the Ports tab,
Click on Add Port.
Select Standard TCP/IP and press on Add Port.
Follow the wizard by typing your printer's IP Address and complete the wizard.
Confirm the changes and try printing again.
May you see any difference?
Please let me know,
Shlomi

The port configuration now looks like the following. The extra standard ports showed up after the previous installation. I didn't do anything on purpose to cause them to be there. Now, when I attempt to print the test page out of the printers and scanners menu, I back to where we were originally where it says "error" in the print queue. So it appears that maybe using this standard port takes this a step backwards.

POSSIBLE RESOLUTION: after the last set of problems I once again deleted the printer and reinstalled it using the "full solution" and let it use an advanced TCP/IP port. I mentioned in a previous post that the firmware version on this printer is quite old and I had been unable to install an update "printer not found". However, I tried turning off the Windows defender firewall that is in Windows 10 for private networks. This time the firmware update ran to completion. I then turned the Windows defender firewall back on and tried to print something out of Outlook which has up to now failed with an error in the print queue. I have now printed out several items and everything has returned (at least for now) to what I expect it to be. Obviously the firewall was interfering with the ability to update the printer firmware. But since the firmware is now at the latest version downloaded from HP, maybe this was enough to fix things, even with the Windows defender firewall turned back on. I guess I'll have to wait and see as time goes on. Once again, MANY THANKS to those who provided suggestions, files, etc. I'm sure that all of his help contributed to what I hope is a permanent solution. Cheers!
