Hi @ozarker2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP LaserJet M140we is showing a flashing exclamation mark (!) and you're experiencing technical difficulties with the HP Smart app despite having good wireless connectivity, follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Status

  • Error Codes and Lights:
    • Consult the printer’s control panel for any specific error codes or messages. The flashing exclamation mark often indicates an error or alert that needs attention.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Power Cycle the Printer:
    • Turn off the printer using the power button.
    • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the electrical outlet.
    • Wait for 60 seconds to ensure a full reset.
    • Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.

3. Verify Wireless Connection

Check Wireless Status:

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network. Print a wireless network test report from the printer’s control panel if available.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the prompts to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.

4. Check and Replace Cartridges

Verify Cartridge Status:

  • Open the cartridge access door and ensure the cartridges are properly installed and not empty.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Remove the cartridges and reinstall them to ensure they are seated correctly. Check for any protective tape or packaging material that might be obstructing the cartridges.

5. Use HP Smart App Troubleshooting

Reinstall HP Smart App:

  • Uninstall the HP Smart app from your laptop or mobile device.
  • Reboot your device.
  • Download and reinstall the latest version of the HP Smart app from the HP Smart website.

Set Up the Printer Again:

  • Open the HP Smart app and follow the instructions to add and set up the printer again.

6. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Check Printer Diagnostics:
    • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Tools > Print Quality Report or Printer Diagnostics to check for any diagnostic information or issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
