I use an HP Omen laptop.

We had been sending print needs to HP 2755e. Wirelessly from iPhones and my laptop. Suddenly I could not print from laptop. Deleted HP Smart app and all printer versions that showed up (even one that stated Scan Only???)  including removing Printers thru Device Manager. Restarted computer - - and did something else. Anyway, I can now print straight from computer without using HP Smart app. IF I print in the app I have to select a different printer setting to get print. Is this normal?

No -wait. I just tried the app, it acted like it was sending to printer but nothing came out!!!

I've spent at least 4 hours today chasing down all possibilities (I hope) but I'm now at this reoccurring issue.

Do I even need HP Smart?? I only print while at home. We don't need remote printing capabilities. Should I just delete HP Smart app?

Hi @bamakodaker1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Based on what you’ve described, here’s some clarity and structured steps you can follow:

Do you need the HP App?

  • The HP App (previously called HP Smart) is mainly useful if you want features like scanning, monitoring ink levels, or printing remotely.
  • If you only print at home and your computer already prints directly without issues, the app is optional. You can uninstall it if you don’t need those extra features.

Why the mismatch happens

  • When you removed and reinstalled devices, Windows created a fresh printer queue that works fine for direct printing.
  • The HP App may still be pointing to an older or incorrect queue, which is why jobs appear to send but don’t print.
  • This is normal if the app isn’t aligned with the printer queue Windows is using.

Steps to fix printing through the HP App

  1. Open the HP App.
  2. Remove any printers listed inside the app.
  3. Add the printer again by selecting Set up a new printer.
  4. Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi‑Fi network as your laptop.
  5. Once added, test printing from the app.

If you decide not to use the HP App

  • You can rely on Windows’ built‑in printing system.
  • To keep things clean, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners and confirm only one printer queue exists for your HP 2755e.
  • Set that queue as Default printer so you don’t have to manually select it each time.

Recommendation

If your main need is simple home printing, you can safely uninstall the HP App and just use Windows’ printer management. If you want scanning or monitoring features, reinstall and re‑add the printer inside the app to align it with the working queue.
