Hi @GHANIA1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your frustration with your HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn printer showing an ink error despite having a full toner cartridge.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer completely by pressing the power button and unplugging it from the power outlet.
  • Wait for 30 seconds, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • This simple step can often resolve temporary glitches that might be causing the error message.

2. Remove and Reinsert the Toner Cartridge:

  • Turn off the printer and open the toner cartridge door.
  • Carefully remove the toner cartridge and gently rock it back and forth a few times to distribute the toner evenly.
  • Wipe the electrical contacts on the cartridge with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Reinsert the toner cartridge firmly into the printer and close the door.
  • Turn the printer back on and see if the error message persists.

3. Clean the Toner Cartridge Contacts:

  • If the previous step doesn't work, you can try cleaning the toner cartridge contacts.
  • Caution: Use a lint-free cloth and avoid touching the drum inside the cartridge, as this can damage it.
  • With the printer turned off and unplugged, open the cartridge door and remove the cartridge.
  • Gently wipe the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Reinstall the toner cartridge and close the door.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the error message is gone.

4. Check for Low Toner Warnings:

  • Some printers might display an "ink low" message even when the toner cartridge is not empty.
  • Check the printer's control panel or software for any specific low toner warnings.
  • If the toner is genuinely low, consider replacing it with a genuine HP toner cartridge. Using non-genuine cartridges can sometimes lead to compatibility issues and error messages.

5. Update the Printer Driver:

  • Outdated printer drivers might not recognize the toner cartridge properly.
  • Visit the HP website and download the latest driver for your specific printer model.
  • Install the downloaded driver and follow the on-screen instructions. Software and Drivers for HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer

6. Run Printer Diagnostics:

  • Most HP printers have built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify and troubleshoot issues.
  • Refer to your printer's user manual or the HP website for instructions on running printer diagnostics.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
