I believe this is well known as it has impacted a huge number of users, even though HP is broadly downplaying it as limited.

the recent firmware release causes the printers in the m209 as well as the m232-237 series lines to recognize all cartridges as unofficial which prevents printing, regardless of any settings in the printer itself. I even purchased a new ink cart to ensure no issues and a brand new, direct from HP, cartridge was also recognized as not official and blocked.

We are also currently having this issue. Webpage says last firmware was completed on 2/5 and the printer fails to update firmware again. a genuine cartridge is in but there are no ink levels. new ink cartridge printed for a day before the printer stopped printing again

I completely understand how frustrating this situation must be. It’s definitely not the experience we want you to have, and I sincerely regret the inconvenience this has caused.
Have you already tried any troubleshooting steps? If not, I’d recommend checking for new firmware updates.Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support
Try to restart the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in.
- Wai for few minutes and then insert the cartridges (let printer prompt for cartridges)
- Turn on the printer
Also, resetting the printer to factory defaults might help. Restore factory defaults on your HP printer | HP® Support
Let me know what you’ve tried so far, and I’ll be happy to guide you through the next steps to get your printers back up and running. 😊
Take care and have a good day.
