Unable to print using the two MacPros in the house. Printer shows idle in Printers and Scanners (in System Preferences); however, when you try to print, it errors out with unable to connect.

Hi @HRRoadGlide,
Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query. I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that you are unable to print from your Mac computer to your computer.
This issue could occur if the drivers are not configured properly.
Let's go through a few steps that may help to fix this issue.
And here are a few steps in the link to reset printing systems: Resetting the Printing System (Mac)
Let me know if this works.
You have a good day ahead.

Thanks for the reply
I reset my print setup as outlined in the Link above
When I tried reinstalling the 8600 printer, here is what happened
- After clicking on the “+” sign, the printers appeared in the “Add” popup window – Name: “Officejet Pro 8600 (067FE6)“; Kind: “Bonjour Multifunction”
- I highlighted the printer, kept the name as Officejet Pro 8600 and selected the software “HP Officejet Pro 8600” for the popup selection
- After a minute of two, systex m returned a popup box – “Unable to verify the printer on your network. Unable to connect to Officejet Pro 8600 (067FE6), _tcp.local. Due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer? The buttons “Cancel” and “Continue” show. Cancel stops installation. Continue continues….
- I logged into my router and the printer is in my network map.
- After hitting the continue and waiting a few minutes, installation continues and I see the printer in the Printers and Scanner System Setup window with a green idle light showing the printer is ready.
- When I try to print, the job shows in the job window for the printer and the progress status advances to around 20% and then stops with the error: “The Printer is not responding”
Any ideas would be welcomed.
Thanks

Hello, @HRRoadGlide
I see that you were interacting with @Rainbow23. He is out of office and I'd like to help 🙂
I understand that you are having issues while scanning after upgrading to MAC Sierra. You need to install the MAC Sierra drivers for the printer to get this working. Follow the below-mentioned steps:
- Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
- Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C
- Restart your computer and printer.
- Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
- Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
- Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
- Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
- Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
- Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
- Now, click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip to download and install the printer driver.
- In the “Add printer” window, make sure you add the printer as mentioned below:
- Click the “Add button” (+).
- Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
- Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “AirPrint” would be selected)
Let me know if that helps!
Good luck 🙂
