Hi @Rune8,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are locked out of your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw due to a password issue, you can try the following solutions:
1. Try Default Passwords
- Some HP printers use a default password, which could be:
- admin
- 12345678
- 00000000
- The printer’s serial number (found on the back or inside the cartridge area)
2. Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults
If you don’t know the password and can't reset it from the menu, follow these steps to restore the factory settings:
Method 1: Reset from the Printer Menu
- On the Printer Control Panel, go to:
- Setup (⚙️ or Wrench icon) > Service > Restore Defaults
- Confirm the reset.
- The printer will restart and return to default settings, including the password.
Method 2: Semi-Full Reset (If Locked Out)
If you cannot access the menu, perform a semi-full reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Hold down the lower-left corner of the touchscreen.
- While holding, turn the printer back on.
- Keep holding until you see the HP logo and a progress bar.
- The printer should now reset to factory defaults.
3. Reset via Embedded Web Server (EWS)
If the printer is connected to your network:
- Find the printer’s IP address:
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer menu.
- Enter the IP address in a web browser.
- Navigate to Settings > Security > Administrator Settings.
- Change or reset the password.
4. Perform a Cold Reset (Last Resort)
If none of the above works, a Cold Reset may be required, which often requires HP support or service tools.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
