Hi @bevans73

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Certainly! It sounds like you're having trouble with the initial setup of your HP Photosmart 7520 printer, particularly with the setup cartridges. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:

Open the Cartridge Access Door:

  • Make sure the printer is turned on.
  • Open the cartridge access door. This is usually located on the front of the printer. Lift or swing it open.

Install the Setup Cartridges (if available):

  • If you have the setup cartridges that came with the printer, insert them into the correct slots. Each cartridge has a label indicating its color and where it should be installed.
  • Push the cartridges into their respective slots until they click into place.

If Setup Cartridges are Missing:

  • Since you mentioned that the setup cartridges are missing, insert the new HP cartridges you bought. Make sure they are inserted into the correct color-coded slots.

Close the Cartridge Access Door:

  • After inserting the cartridges, close the cartridge access door securely.

Follow On-screen Instructions:

  • The printer's control panel or display should guide you through the setup process. Follow any on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Alignment Process (if prompted):

  • After installing cartridges, the printer might prompt you to align the cartridges. Follow the instructions on the screen to perform the alignment. This ensures optimal print quality.

Install Printer Software on Computer:

  • To fully set up the printer, you might need to install the printer software on your computer. You can usually find the necessary software on the HP website. Follow the instructions for your specific operating system.

Test Print:

  • Once the setup is complete, try printing a test page to ensure everything is working correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Gaya1239!

Unfortunately your solution will not work in this case.  We do not have the setup cartridges, and this is initial setup of the printer where that is specifically required by the printer.  Inserting cartridges, even new HP cartridges, does not fix the issue of the printer requiring the setup cartridges.

What I would really like is the solution given for this post (and many other posts, all have the exact same answer):https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/Photosmart-7520-printer-asking-for-setu...
