Hi @vignefolle,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To install the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w printer on Scientific Linux 7.9 (SL-7.9) or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL-7), you'll need to follow these general steps.

Download the Driver: Visit the HP support website or use the HP Device Manager tool to download the appropriate driver for your printer model. Make sure you download the driver compatible with your Linux distribution.

Install Required Packages: Ensure that you have the necessary packages installed on your system. You might need CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) and other related packages. You can install them using your package manager. For example:

sudo yum install cups cups-client cups-libs cups-lpd

Install the Printer Driver: Once you've downloaded the driver, extract the archive and run the installation script. The installation process may differ depending on the driver package you downloaded. Follow the instructions provided with the driver.

Add the Printer: After installing the driver, you need to add the printer to your system. You can do this through the CUPS web interface or using the lpadmin command. Open a web browser and go to http://localhost:631 to access the CUPS interface, or use the command line.

Via CUPS Web Interface:

  • Open your web browser and go to http://localhost:631.
  • Click on the "Administration" tab, then "Add Printer".
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer. You may need to provide the printer's IP address or hostname.

Via Command Line: Use the lpadmin command to add the printer. For example:

sudo lpadmin -p YourPrinterName -E -v YourPrinterURI -m YourPPDFile.ppd

Replace YourPrinterName with a name for your printer, YourPrinterURI with the printer's URI (usually hp:/... for HP printers), and YourPPDFile.ppd with the path to the PPD file provided with the driver.

Configure the Printer: Once the printer is added, you can configure its options such as paper size, resolution, etc., either through the CUPS interface or using the lpoptions command.

Test Printing: Finally, test printing a document to ensure that the printer is working correctly.

Remember to replace placeholders like YourPrinterName, YourPrinterURI, and YourPPDFile.ppd with the actual values corresponding to your printer and driver installation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
