Hi @majicwaryr,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Officejet Pro 8620 printer is asking for an ID and password that you never set up, you can try a few steps to reset the printer to its default settings or bypass the password.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you resolve this issue:
Step 1: Reset the Printer
Resetting your printer to its factory defaults can often resolve issues related to passwords and network settings.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Factory Reset:
- On the printer's control panel, go to the Setup menu.
- Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Service.
- Look for an option that says Restore Defaults or Restore Factory Settings.
- Confirm the reset. This will reset all settings to the factory defaults.
Step 2: Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
If the printer is connected to a network, you can access its Embedded Web Server to reset settings or change passwords.
Find the Printer’s IP Address:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Network Summary.
- Note down the IP address.
Access the EWS:
- Open a web browser on a device connected to the same network as the printer.
- Type the printer’s IP address into the address bar and press Enter.
- You should see the EWS page.
Reset or Update Credentials:
- Navigate to the Settings or Security section.
- Look for options to change or reset the administrator password.
- If prompted for a password, try using the default credentials (often "admin" for both username and password, or leave one of the fields blank).
Step 3: Use the HP Smart App
The HP Smart app can help manage and troubleshoot your printer.
Download and Install HP Smart:
- Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store (Windows), App Store (iOS), or Google Play Store (Android).
Connect to the Printer:
- Open the HP Smart app and follow the prompts to add your printer.
- Once connected, navigate to Settings or Advanced Settings.
Reset Credentials:
- Look for options to reset or update the printer's password.

Hi. I have SSID. I have IP address, MAC address. Wireless passcode. I have EWS. I have discovery service. I have WPA Authentication. The printer just will not do anything w/o ID & PW. This only happened in 30 years that I am locked out of using my printer. I am shut out completely. Nothing will let me connect to my network. nothing. All my other devices work just fine. I cannot access this printer no way no how. It is locked out. HELP ME PLEASE!

I see that you are facing an issue with your Printer.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
