Envy 4527

My printer has stopped working after Windows 10 update. It is an HP ENVY 4527 and every time I try to print it simply comes up with save to printer files. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting, I have contacted HP and followed their guidance to install a new driver and still nothing … I had one bright advisor on HP tell me to disable the save to print option but didn't explain how to do that or where that option was. Any ideas?

@spotthecat1, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Let us try to isolate and fix the issue-

It is not the printer setting, it is Google Chrome which you are using (please correct me if I'm wrong)

From the printing dialog of Chrome click the Change button and change from Save as PDF to your printer, then it should print instead of saving the file.

If you are not using google chrome and using an application on the printer, follow the steps below-

Try these steps to set the printer as default -

1. In the search box, type, and open Control Panel.
2. Click on View by and select Large icons.
3. Open Devices and printers.
4. Right-click on your printer and select Set a default printer.

If the issue still persists, try these steps -

Step 1 HP Print and Scan Doctor -

Click on this link to download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Step 2 Re-install the printer drivers -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type, and open “Devices and Printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for the HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

14. Download and install the software and drivers from here.

15. Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
