Hello, I have a problem with my HP Color LaserJet 1600 printer. The toners on the right side are jammed and I can't remove them from the printer. It looks like they are blocked by a white plastic bar. I don't know when this happened, but I need to replace the toners and they are all jammed on the right side. The technician told me that HP does this when using compatible toners. Can you give me any advice on how to unblock this? It's an older type of printer and it works fine.
Thank you.

Hi @moniqa,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to assist you.
The issue you describe with the toners being blocked by a white plastic bar in your HP Color LaserJet 1600 could happen due to mechanical misalignment or restrictions that prevent the removal of cartridges. Here's how you can troubleshoot:
Steps to Unblock the Toners:
Power Off and Unplug the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it to avoid accidental movements or electrical issues.
Check the Toner Latch Mechanism:
- Open the printer cover and inspect the toner latch mechanism. The white plastic bar may be part of the locking system.
- Ensure the bar isn’t stuck or misaligned. If possible, gently push it to see if it releases the cartridges.
Manual Override:
- Some older HP printers have a manual release for the toner cartridges. Look for a small lever or button near the toner assembly that could unlock the mechanism.
Inspect for Foreign Objects:
- Check for any debris or obstructions inside the printer that might be preventing the mechanism from moving freely.
Use the Printer’s Control Panel:
- If the printer has a menu, navigate to a toner replacement or maintenance setting. This may trigger the mechanism to release the cartridges.
Firm but Gentle Movement:
- Avoid forcing the toner out, as this could cause permanent damage. If there’s slight resistance, wiggle the toner gently to see if it releases.
If the Issue Persists:
- Professional Help:
- A technician can carefully disassemble the toner assembly to resolve the blockage without damaging the printer.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
