HP Smart Tank 670 All-in-One

I just bought this printer middle of this year. First sets of printout is okay but then on that same week of usage I noticed that the printout is not straight especially with layouts with borders. I do the printhead alignment and test print. The lines are not really straight.

Do I have to take it to the service or I can still do a home remedy?

Hi @Castiel0616,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue of misaligned printouts, especially with a printer as new as your HP Smart Tank 670 All-in-One, can often be resolved with some troubleshooting steps before resorting to service. Here's what you can try:

1. Double-Check Alignment Process

Ensure you're performing the printhead alignment correctly:

  1. Load plain white paper into the printer.
  2. Use the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app to initiate the alignment process.
  3. When prompted, scan the alignment page. Ensure the page is placed correctly on the scanner glass as indicated by the instructions.

If the alignment test fails or produces wavy lines, proceed with the next steps.

2. Clean the Printheads

Sometimes, misalignment issues stem from clogged or dirty printheads:

  1. Use the HP Smart app or printer control panel to clean the printheads.
  2. After cleaning, perform a test print.
  3. Repeat cleaning up to 2-3 times if the issue persists.

3. Check the Paper Settings

Ensure the printer settings match the paper type and size you're using:

  1. On the printer’s control panel or through the HP Smart app, verify the paper settings.
  2. Adjust the settings to match the paper loaded in the tray (e.g., A4, Letter, etc.).

4. Inspect the Printheads

If cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue:

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Open the printer and carefully inspect the printheads for visible damage or misplacement.
  3. If you suspect the printheads are not seated properly, reseat them following the manual’s instructions.

5. Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Ensure your printer is running the latest firmware:

  1. Open the HP Smart app or visit the HP Support website.
  2. Check for firmware updates and install them if available.

6. Use High-Quality Paper

Poor-quality or warped paper can cause misalignment:

  • Use HP-recommended paper to see if the issue persists.

7. Reset the Printer

If none of the above works, perform a reset:

  1. Turn off the printer, unplug it for 5 minutes, and then plug it back in.
  2. Retry the alignment process.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
