Hi @kbe2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out. I’m really sorry to hear what happened, and I completely understand how concerning this must be.

Please note that if the person who contacted you was truly from HP, you would have received a Case ID via email from an official HP address. If you didn’t receive this, then it’s very likely the call was not from HP.

Disconnect From the Internet: Ensure your laptop is disconnected from the internet to prevent any further unauthorized access.

Run a Security Scan: Use antivirus software to scan your computer for any malicious software. Windows 11 comes with built-in Windows Security (Windows Defender), which you should run to perform a full system scan.

Change Passwords:

  • Change the passwords of all accounts accessed on your laptop, especially sensitive accounts like email, banking, and social media.
  • Ensure new passwords are strong, containing a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.

Verify and Revoke Access:

  • Check settings in any software for unauthorized access permissions and revoke them.
  • Look for any suspicious installed applications and uninstall them.

Update Software:

  • Ensure your operating system and all software are updated to their latest versions, which may contain security patches.

Monitor Accounts: Keep an eye on your accounts for any unusual activity and report it immediately to the relevant authority or service provider.

Contact your bank or card issuer to alert them of potential fraud, and monitor your accounts for unusual activity.

Report the scam to your local cybercrime authority.

Also, could you please let us know which platform or website they used to try to connect with HP? This information would really help our team track the source and take necessary action against them to protect other users.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,
