Hi. My printer is set to check for updates, which is probably why it's up to date. I think HP roll these things out to test before submitting them for release via Windows update. Just my guess.

Having the same issues. Fixed by removing ONENOTE printer driver and current Epson driver too. Reset windows update list/cache.

Hope this helps.

Glad it worked for you, I did all that and it did not fix it.

thx for the link BTW. Something interesting to read. The update didn't disappear straight away only after I rebooted. I even tried it twice and it wasn't a fluke. So hope you are/get sorted.

I've never posted before, so my apologies if I'm doing so incorrectly.

I was suffering from this issue for a few weeks now, and I'm happy to say I just resolved it.

This solution may not apply to all users, but since I have not yet seen such a suggestion, I thought I would share it.

Now a few disclaimers:  This method uses the Print Management snapin in MCC so Windows 10 Home users do not have access to this feature.  I am using Windows 10 Pro.  I only have one HP laser printer CP1525nw and do not use ready ink.

OK That said.  My problem was caused by something called HP Smart.  I don't know what that is, quite honestly, it sounds like an oxymoron.  Regardless, HP Smart does not appeared in my add/remove Programs, so i couldn't uninstall it by traditional means.  This is how I was able to remove it.

1.  Launch Print Management.  This can be done a number of ways:

1A. From the start menu choose Run, and type   Printmanagement.msc  in the blank space and click OK

1B. From the old style Control Panel choose Administrative Tools and then Choose Print Management.

2. With Print Management now open, Click on  Custom Filters , then All Drivers.  See if "HP Smart" shows up as a driver.  If so, Right Click on it and choose Remove Driver package Click  ok or uninstall (I can't remember what it said).  It should uninstall all the associated drivers.

3. This last step may not be neccessary.  Its something I did for good measure, but I can't say that it's absolutely necessary.  I would probably at this point first try Rebooting and launch Windows update to see it it was resolved.  If not, I would also try the next step.

4  For good measure, I deleted the Software Distribution Folder in the Windows directory.

I hope this helps some people, like myself who don't have the HP Printer that this failing update was supposed to update.

So I did some more testing.  On two machines running Windows 11 that have the failing download from Microsoft, it downloads but will not install.   I removed the HP LJ printer from devices, de-installed all the HP software (HP Smart, HPscan, etc.) cleaned up leftover folders, restarted computer, re-tried the download, it worked fine.  Then I re-installed the full software package from HP (minus some of the options) and configured HP Smart and the printer settings.  All is working fine.   The driver download from Microsoft did not like something to do with the HP setup.  I had the same issue on a third machine, all I did was re-install the full HP software suite for that printer then the driver download installed.

I bit the bullet and fixed this issue on three machines.  Deinstall everything associated with my HP LJ color printer (printers, apps, etc.).  Downloaded and installed HP full installation package for the printer.  Only installed things I wanted like HPSMart, drivers, etc. and did not install things like Fax...  Problem solved.  Something in the full package is needed by windows to complete the install of HP - Printer - 3.2.1.2285 update.
