I can print from my Windows 10 PC which is older, but am having trouble with the Chromebook because the printer model is not listed in the Chrome Printer settings. It is enumerated with the right name, but then requires advanced setup and there is no option for this printer series. Is there a way to do this that doesn't involve installing a Linux VM or other time consuming tasks?

Hi,
Your printer cannot be used on a Chromebook with a USB connection as a PCLmS printer, such printers are more limited.
Make sure the HP Print for Chrome app is installed and check if that may make any difference:

If it still fails to print, connect the printer to the same network as your Chromebook, with an ethernet cable or wirelessly and then you should be able to add and use it with a Chromebook.

Unfortunately I need to print via USB cable and not network. I was hoping there would be a driver I could download for Chromebook. In theory that *should* be easier, but it may be that HP does not support Chromebooks this way.
