I got the printer two days ago and have the scanning and copying functions working. The printing function also works wirelessly from an iPad, presumably through Apple's own AirPrint app. However, when I try to print from my Mac, through the HP software/driver, I only get "Printer not connected" or "Out of paper" error messages. The test print doesn't print. I have shut down and restarted everything several times, and also reinstalled the driver, but with no success.
Any help appreciated.

@JN6,
Thanks for visiting the HP community. A very good day to you! I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. good description and great presentation of the issue. It is amply appreciated.
Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:
- Did remove the printer and add it as Apple AirPrint and check again?
- Is it a WIFI direct connection without a router or a wireless router connection?
- Did you update the MAC OS to its latest updates?
Meanwhile, I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:
- From this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-photo-7100-all-in-one-printer-series/9073119/model/1649... perform instructions only from the section “Step 1: Restart the computer, printer, and router”
- Then update the printer’s firmware by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16
- using a USB cable.
- From this user guide link: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05633496 restore network defaults on the printer and refer to page 112 for instructions
- Make sure that all the latest Mac OS updates are completely and correctly installed on the Mac and the most current ones are updated.
- Update the router's firmware also if available.
Then from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c05635968 (HP Printers - Printing with Apple AirPrint (macOS and OS X) follow directions to delete and add the printer again.
- Just that when you delete the printer. Make sure to add the printer as Apple AirPrint or Secure AirPrint and nothing else. (Don’t add it as an HP printer. This is important.)
- This should fix the issue for you.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Thanks DavidSMP for the quick and detailed response.
Under System Preferences> Printers and Scanners, I deleted the printer and then added it again (under Apple AirPrint), and it is now working as intended.
Thanks for your help.
