Printer works fine, but:

Issue: Every hour my printer becomes noisy (no current documents pending), even by night.
I tried to fix the problem by means of the HP AI assistant (complicated), but after an hour the printer woke up again. Nothing is being displayed on printer's display.
Is this behaviour part of cleaning print heads?
How can I stop this annoying behaviour, apart from turning off at bed time and on next day?

Many thanks for any help.

Hello @noch, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Officejet.

We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are glad we could help work toward a resolution. We hope our support has been valuable.

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please let me know the printer's name and the model number along with the network setup of the HP device so that I can assist you further?

  • The printer is performing an automatic cleaning cycle. Printing will continue after the cleaning is complete.
  • No action necessary.

If your printer becomes noisy periodically even with no pending jobs, it may be performing an automatic cleaning/maintenance cycle. This matches your description, especially if nothing appears on the display.

STEP by STEP

  1. Wait a few minutes and let the printer finish the noise/maintenance cycle.
  2. Check whether printing works normally afterward.
  3. If print quality is poor, run Clean the Printhead or Align the Printhead from the printer maintenance menu, if your model supports it.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
