HP DeskJet 2720e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Embedded Web Server asks for a custom printer password, but I have no idea what that might be.
I have never set such a password.
I have tried the pin shown beside the P/N and S/N, but that is rejected.

How do I remove or reset this password?

Thank you Rachel571.

I have already tried all that you suggest but without success.

Then on support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_9170867-9170913-16
I found this method which worked beautifully -

Restore factory defaults using a DeskJet or ENVY printer control panel.

Open the cartridge access door.

On the control panel, press and hold the Power and Wireless buttons for at least 3 seconds.

After about 20 seconds, close the cartridge access door.

Hi @HairyScot

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're being prompted for a custom password on the Embedded Web Server (EWS) of your printer and you don't know what it is, you can try the following steps to reset or remove the password:

1. Default Passwords:

  • Some HP printers may have a default password. Common defaults include "admin," "1234," or leaving the field blank. Try these first.

2. Reset Printer Settings:

  • You can perform a factory reset on the printer, which usually removes custom settings, including any passwords. The method to reset can vary by model, so check your printer's manual for specific instructions. Generally:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Press and hold the Cancel button and the Wireless button (or another combination based on your model) while turning it back on.
    • Release the buttons once the printer starts up.

3. Use HP Smart App:

  • If your printer is connected to your network, you can try accessing the printer settings through the HP Smart app. Sometimes, you can manage settings without needing the EWS password.

4. Access through a Network:

  • If the printer is networked, you might be able to access it through the router's connected devices list. You can find its IP address and try to access the EWS via that address, which might allow you to reset settings.

5. Consult Printer Documentation:

  • Check the printer’s user manual for any specific instructions on resetting passwords or factory resetting.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
