Was looking for help setting up scanner function on new Mac. Somehow ended up with a pop-up from Kevin.
Since I thought I was on the legit HP site, I accepted the chat assistance. Downloaded the remote Zoho so he could quickly diagnose the problem. From there it felt odd and when he asked for $199 to fix the coding and multiple layering that things would continue to get worse and worse if I did not fix immediately. I said No..I'd rather not spend 200 ...I could manuever the scan through the HP website..I just wanted a more direct link, like on my laptop. I asked him who he was working for and he clicked to my Safari and then to BBB.org and showed me a company's great reviews. Annansys I think was the name of the company. He called me and again reiterated that unless I fixed it now, things would continue to get worse. I said no..but I could call him back at that number and revisit it later? he said yes.
I knew something was off when he was disconnecting the remote connection and chose to DELETE the chat info we had instead of saving it. I deleted the Zoho app and restarted my computer. Went to bed. Woke up at 3:30 am to find over 15 fraud charges on my bank cards. Apparently "someone" searched my email and phone number and set up a Facebook ad account raking in the charges through PayPal and Facebook. Cards cancelled and all password changed. May not have been "Kevin"...but the timing is so strange. Apparently I am not the only one they target using a fairly close domain name and language.

I understand - and the whole mess is unfortunate.
Consider
Can you start a new thread - that is, create a separate thread for the printer and the issue with the scanner?
Include the printer model, the Operating System and version, and a simple description of what is not working.
Someone who understands Mac OS (not me) can likely help.
Stay Safe.

No, you are not the only one.
There are many "similar" sounding fake websites of this sort all over the net.
This is prime hunting ground for thieves, scoundrels, and various low-life scammers.
Contact your bank, of course - tell them you have been the victim of fraud and provide the details.
Most banks / credit card companies won't hold you responsible and will refund your money.
The unfortunate result is the thief usually still gets to keep his ill-gotten reward.
The other bad part, of course, is if you let someone into your computer.
Some of these actors are worse than others - the very act of letting them connect with your computer might be enough for a skilled thief to find and steal valuable information - private files and the like.
What else?
Your data is compromised, your bank information is compromised.
Best act accordingly - scrub the system, change all your bank information, change every password.
What else?

You are welcome.
Well, I am sorry you were caught in the trap.
Good job so far.
Yes decent security software can certainly help dig out the remnants of dirt.
It may not be immediate, an agent may contact you (here on the thread first) for some follow up.
Stay Safe (in all ways).
