I sold and set up an OfficeJet Pro 9018e for a friend of mine. He'd like the printer to default to black rather than color. Since I don't have access to the printer until I get to his location (several miles away), I need methods or suggestions before I head to his place.
We both know it can be changed while printing but he'd like black to be the default, and be able to switch to color when necessary. Now it's the other way around. 🙂
Thanks.

Hi @dvdrttr14,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To set your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e printer to default to black-and-white printing, you can follow these steps.
- Turn on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e printer if it's not already on.
- Open the Control Panel or touchscreen display on your printer.
- Navigate to the printer settings or preferences menu. The exact steps may vary slightly depending on your printer's firmware and interface design.
- Look for an option related to "Color" or "Color/Black and White" printing. This option may be under a sub-menu like "Print Quality" or "Printing Preferences."
- Select the option for "Black and White" or "Grayscale." This will set your printer to default to black-and-whiteblack-and-white printing.
- Save the changes if prompted.
- Exit the settings menu.
Now, your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e printer should default to black and white printing for most print jobs. Keep in mind that you can still manually select color printing when needed by changing the print settings for individual print jobs in your computer's print dialog box.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
