HP ENVY 6052 All-In-One Printer

so I just set up a new-in-the-box hp envy 6052 wireless printer with my older hp laptop.  Followed all setup instructions to a "t"  But tried to print a document sent to me in an email and got an error message, can't print because setup not correct/complete.

 

Only thing I can think of is, I could only find the color ink cartridge that came with the printer.  I bought a black replacement and used it.  The directions say somewhere you mut have the "setup" ink cartridges.  Could this be the problem?  How do I get around it?
