Microsoft Windows 11

I am trying to setup a new OfficeJet Pro 8130e printer. When I follow the instructions, the setup cartridge says that it is not communicating with the printer. I have been checking all the solutions posted by HP to reset and restart the printer, including removing and reinstalling the cartridges, with no luck.

Hi @MDYMD,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The issue of setup cartridges not being recognized can sometimes occur during the initial setup of the HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e printer. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this problem:

Verify the Cartridges: Make sure you are using the setup cartridges that came with the printer, as other cartridges may not be recognized. HP printers require the setup of cartridges for initial configuration.

Check Installation:

  • Ensure the cartridges are properly installed.

  • Open the cartridge access door, wait for the carriage to move to the center, and then remove the cartridges. Reinsert them into their respective slots until they click into place.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn the printer off.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source and the printer.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Use a lint-free cloth to clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the carriage.
  • Be cautious not to touch the contacts with your fingers.

Update/Reset Firmware:

Take care and have an amazing day!
