I have changed to a new printer and have gone into HP Smart and removed the printer and installed the new one, But when using AirPrint, every time a pop up appears with a Security Warning that the printer appears to be a different one than previously used. Select continue to Print, or Cancel to Cancel. Any subsequent printing during that session gives no warning. But once the printer is turned off, then next time the warning appears again.

@amymarie0123, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing with AirPrint showing a Security Warning that the printer appears to be different even though it has the same name is related to AirPrint's device identity verification.

Why This Happens:

AirPrint stores a unique identifier for each printer it connects to. When you replace a printer even if it has the same name AirPrint detects that it's a different device (based on its hardware ID or certificate) and shows a warning to ensure you're not connecting to a spoofed device.

Steps to Resolve or Minimize the Warning:

Rename the Printer

Changing the printer’s name slightly helps AirPrint recognize it as a new trusted device:

  • Open HP Smart or your printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Navigate to Settings > Printer Name.
  • Change the name (e.g., from HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 to HP OfficeJet Pro 9010-New).
  • Save and restart the printer.

Forget the Old Printer on Your iOS Device

  • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi on your iPhone/iPad.
  • Tap the “i” icon next to your printer (if listed).
  • Select Forget This Device.
  • Reconnect and reselect the printer when printing.

Reset AirPrint Cache (Optional)

If the issue persists:

  • Restart your iOS device.
  • Power cycle the printer.
  • Reinstall the printer via HP Smart and ensure it’s connected to the same network.

Ensure Firmware is Up to Date

Outdated firmware can sometimes cause certificate mismatches:

Use Static IP Address

Assigning a static IP can help maintain consistent identity:

  • Access your printer’s EWS via browser (type the printer’s IP in the address bar).
  • Go to Network Settings > IPv4 Configuration.
  • Set a Manual IP and save.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
