Office Jet Pro 6968
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Trying to install the Essential Software and HP Easy Scan software for the office jet pro 6968 printer/scanner/copier.  I get "Software cannot be installed.  Try again later"   I've confirmed that my comcast router lists the HP as a connected device at 2.4 G.  I've disabled the Firewall on the Mac book Air.  Rebooted everthing several times.  No luck.  Any suggestions?

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are getting issues in installing HP Easy Scan.

  • From your Applications folder or its HP subfolder delete any existing HP Scan or HP Easy Scan application, delete it by moving it to trash, then empty the trash.
  • Next install the latest HP Easy Scan below, it will be installed within the Applications folder: Click here
  • Finally, ensure your drivers are up to date by clicking the Apple icon, select About this Mac and then press Software Update.
  • Click Store on the top menu bar, click Reload Page, click Update All if any updated are available.

As an alternative,  you can use Apple Image capture should work.

Apple Image Capture: Preinstalled app in macOS and OS X that supports most scan functions.

NOTE: 

Scan functions like Image Capture are also available in Preview and in the Printers & Scanners tools in System Preferences.

Hello,  Just replying to HP Support Agent Sandytechy20.  Thanks very much for your suggested fix.  Followed all the steps precisely and still can't get the two drivers installed.  Got the same message:  "software cannot be installed.  Try again later" message. I verified my version of Mac OS is above the required version number, confirmed that there are no updates available, deleted the old versions of HP driver software.  The same problem is occuring on both the MacBook Air and the iMac.  Both are running 10.11.6.   My options are to pay $20 for an HP support phone call or $89 for a visit from Best Buy's Geek Squad.

Figured I would try again today to load the essential software for the printer, scanner, copyer (Pro 6968).  Went to the HP site and searched for the drivers for my max OS 10.11.  I noticed that the downloads looked a little different this time.  I walked all the way through the install then tried the printer and scanner.  The both work now!  I appears the HP made some changes to the drivers the fixed the problem!
