I recently changed my cable modem and router. Afterwards, my printer wouldn't connect. I tried various solutions without successs. Finally, I choose to uninstall and reinstall the printer. However, I am unable to reinstall the printer with the installation wizard. One alternate method is to find the ip address then browse to that but I can't find my ip address. When I print the configuration report from the printer, the ip address that is reported is not accessible. I am unable to get my router's ip address from Xfinity so that I can view the DHCP table. Any other suggestions for finding my printer's ip address?

Hi @martintg ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw lost connection after changing your modem and router, it's likely the printer still has an old IP address from the previous network. Here are some ways to find the correct IP address and reconnect your printer:
Option 1: Check on Your Router's Interface
Since you mentioned difficulty accessing your Xfinity router, try these steps:
Find your router’s IP address
- Open Command Prompt (Win + R, type cmd, press Enter).
- Type: ipconfig and press Enter.
- Look for Default Gateway (e.g., 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1). This is your router’s IP.
Log in to your router
- Open a browser and enter the router’s IP.
- Log in (default username/password is often admin / password, unless changed).
- Look for a DHCP Client List, Connected Devices, or similar section to find your printer's IP.
Option 2: Check via Windows Command Prompt
Open Command Prompt and run: arp -a
- This will list all devices on your network along with their IP and MAC addresses.
- Find one that matches your printer’s MAC address (printed on the Configuration Page or printer label).
Alternatively, run: netstat -r
- This may list devices, including your printer, if it's connected.
Option 3: Assign a New IP to the Printer Manually
If you still can't find the correct IP, you may need to reset the network settings and reassign a new IP:
- Reset the printer’s network settings:
- On the control panel, navigate to Network Setup > Restore Defaults.
- This will reset the printer’s network settings.
- Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi:
- If using Wi-Fi, go to Wireless Setup Wizard and reconnect.
- If using Ethernet, plug the printer into the router via cable and check for a new IP in the router’s settings.
Option 4: Use the HP Smart App or HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor (HP Support) and run a network scan.
- HP Smart App may also detect the printer if it's connected to Wi-Fi.
Let me know if you need further troubleshooting!
