@mckissic, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're dealing with a webcam issue where it was working before, but now it's showing up with a black line through the camera icon. Let's go through a few troubleshooting steps to resolve this:

Check Camera in Device Manager:

Press Win + X and select Device Manager.

Scroll down to Imaging Devices and expand it. Look for your webcam.

If you see a yellow triangle or an error next to the webcam, right-click on it and select Update Driver. You can also try Uninstalling the device and then restarting the laptop to let Windows reinstall the driver.

Enable Camera in Privacy Settings:

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.

Make sure the Camera Access for apps is turned on.

Scroll down and make sure that the apps you want to use the camera with are allowed to access the camera.

Check the Camera App:

Open the Camera app (search for it in the Start menu).

If you see the black line over the camera in the app, it could be a hardware issue or a setting within the app itself. You might also see an error message that can help clarify the problem.

Restart Windows Camera Service:

Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.

Scroll down to Windows Camera Frame Server.

Right-click on it and select Restart.

After restarting the service, check if the camera works.

Also, refer to these guides for further troubleshooting steps:

HP PCs - "We can't find your camera" error is displayed in Camera app in Windows 10 | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
