HP LaserJet Pro M402dne
Microsoft Windows Server 2012

I currently have a driver on my print server listed as HP LaserJet 400 M401 PCL 6. I will be receiving and installing multiple HP LaserJet Pro M402dne model printers on my print server in the coming days. When I put these HP LaserJet Pro M402dne model printers on my print server do I use this HP LaserJet 400 M401 PCL 6 driver with them or is there a different driver I need to download and install

Hi,

You should use your printer specific drivers, these can be downloaded below:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/LJ/M402-3/HP_LJ_Pro_M402-M403_n-m-dn-dne_PCL6_Win...

To install the printer using the Add Printer Wizard, follow below steps:

  1. Close any software programs running on your computer.
  2. Turn on the printer.
  3. Click on the Download button on this page.
    • NOTE: Depending on Operating System/browser version another window may open for the HP Download and Install Assistant when Download is selected. Use this download assistant if unsure of how or where to download the printer driver. The HP Download and Install Assistant should automatically start the driver download when completed and display the location of where the driver files are downloaded.
    • If the Download and Install Assistant is not available for the download selected, or is not used- follow the steps below:
      1. Click Run or Save File. The file will be downloaded to a temporary folder on your PC.
      2. Run the downloaded file.
      3. Make a note of the folder location in the self-extractor screen. This is where the files will be extracted.
      4. Click Yes after noting the extraction location.
      5. Go to Control Panel, and then select Printers.
      6. Click Add a printer.
      7. Answer the questions in the Add Printer Wizard until you reach the screen that shows the printer manufacturer list.
      8. Click Have Disk.
      9. Browse to the folder where the files were downloaded and extracted in step 6.
      10. Select the appropriate INF file.
      11. Click Open, and then click OK.
      12. Select the appropriate printer.
      13. Follow the remaining on-screen instructions to complete the printer installation.
