My new printer does not want to connect wirelessly to my computer. I have tried multiple times to connect it wireless since that is why i bought the printer to start with but it will never work without hooking up a USB cable. Now it say it cannot connect to the internet so it cannot print ? Why the hell does it have to connect to the internet for if it sees my network ?  I cannot even get it to work with usb now so it tells me to RESET TO FACTORY SETTINGS BUT ASK FOR ADMIN PASSWORD ? I have no idea what the admin password is so does anyone know how to find this ? Im going to try one more time before i haul this thing to the dump and buy a Brother printer.

Hi @Biggie76,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It can be frustrating when your HP Envy 6400 printer doesn't connect wirelessly or is asking for an admin password for a factory reset. Let's address these issues step by step.

Wireless Connection Issue:

  • First, make sure that the printer and your computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Try restarting both your printer and your computer.
  • Check for any firmware or driver updates for your printer on the HP website. Install the latest updates if available.
  • Sometimes, firewalls or antivirus software can interfere with the connection. Temporarily disable them and see if that helps.
  • Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is working correctly and that there are no connectivity issues.

Internet Connection Requirement:

  • Some printers require an internet connection for functions like firmware updates, cloud printing, and accessing web services. This might be why it's asking for an internet connection. However, basic printing and scanning should not require a constant internet connection.
  • Check if your printer is trying to perform a firmware update. It's possible that this process is what's causing the issue.

Factory Reset and Admin Password:

  • To reset your HP Envy 6400 printer to factory settings, you may need to enter an admin password, which is often set during the initial setup.
  • The default admin password for HP printers is usually "admin" or "admin123." Try these first. If you've changed it and can't remember, you may need to contact HP support to inquire about password reset options.
  • Ensure you're performing the factory reset correctly. You may need to press and hold a specific button combination while turning on the printer to initiate the reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
