Hi @Diavi,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To install the scanner driver for the HP LaserJet M1120 MFP on a Mac running macOS Sonoma 14.5, you will need to follow these steps.
Download the Driver:
- Visit the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Enter "HP LaserJet M1120 MFP" in the search box and select your printer model from the list.
- Choose your macOS version (Sonoma 14.5) from the operating system dropdown menu.
- Download the latest available driver for your printer.
Install the Driver:
- Once the driver is downloaded, open the downloaded file to begin the installation process.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Add the Printer and Scanner:
- Go to System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions) on your Mac.
- Select Printers & Scanners.
- Click the "+" button to add a new printer or scanner.
- Select your HP LaserJet M1120 MFP from the list of available devices.
- Follow the prompts to complete the setup.
Set Up the Scanner:
- After the printer is added, the scanner functionality should be available.
- You can use the built-in Image Capture application on your Mac to scan documents. Open Image Capture from the Applications folder, select your scanner from the devices list, and follow the on-screen instructions to scan.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Diavi,
Thank you for your response,
You can try the following steps to see if you can get the scanner working.
Using Apple Software Update
- Connect your printer to your Mac: Make sure your HP LaserJet M1120 is connected to your Mac either via USB or network.
- Open System Preferences: Click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen and select "System Preferences."
- Go to Printers & Scanners: Click on "Printers & Scanners."
- Add the Printer: Click the "+" button to add a new printer. Your Mac should automatically detect the HP LaserJet M1120. If drivers are available through Apple, they will be downloaded and installed automatically.
Using HP Easy Start
- Download HP Easy Start: Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page and search for your printer model. You can download "HP Easy Start" from there, which is an automated tool that can help you install the latest drivers.
- Run HP Easy Start: Follow the instructions in HP Easy Start to install the necessary drivers and software for your printer.
macOS Version Clarification
Regarding macOS 14.5 Sonoma, as of now, macOS 12 Monterey is the latest stable release available to the public. It's possible there may be a misunderstanding or misinformation about macOS versions. The typical progression after Monterey would be macOS 13 Ventura, followed by macOS 14 if Apple follows their usual naming and numbering convention.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Alden,
I have installed the latest driver, but the device is only being recognized as a printer. I tried ImageCapture and Preview, but they're both not recognizing it as a scanner.
