This printer series supports placing documents and photo / image printing into the output tray face side down.  Series includes HP Officejet Pro 872x through the HP Officejet Pro 874x.

This feature is intended to prevent "prying eyes" in an Office environment where privacy is important.

Commentary

Although Office jet printers are generally considered best for printing documents, photo printing is supported as explained in the Specfications > Paper Handling

Because the paper exits the printer "face down", it is perhaps best to use "Instant Dry" photo papers (described in the User Guide > Recommended papers for printing).

For example:

Inkjet Printer Paper > Look for Papers marked as "Instant Dry"

Also, as a precaution, remember to print at "Normal" setting as opposed to "Best".

Provided as courtesy only:

If the photo is for personal use AND a glossy finish is not required, consider using HP Brochure Matte or HP Presentation Matte paper.  The paper is heavy enough and smooth enough to provide decent image printing.  The matte finish reduces the chance the image might "smear" when the photo is not perfectly dry as it exits the printer.
