My PC was not running windows update for months. I thought it might be a need to update firmware on my PC or something since it is a gamer desktop on windows 10 hardware, but then I noticed something that google AI was helping me with.

When researching, I pull up the windows update logs and notice that there was this WU exit error code: 0x8024200B:

2025/08/12 17:38:22.9811195 18540 14652 Handler Exit code = 0x8024200B

I uninstalled the older non-existing printer and rebooted. Retried updates but got the same error.

The AI in google then says to remove the device from device manager. I did this. Rebooted, retry and same error.

The driver must still be there. I looked more and notice there is also the printui.exe commands. I ran these and the control lets you delete the drivers from the registry as well I guess. After this, it manages to install updates now:

But, why can't the installer/uninstaller for HP drivers do all this for you and remind you that you have bad drivers or that the devices are detached or older and need removal or update. Would you like to remove them (maybe enumerate a list at this point allowing you to select the ones to remove?) something like that would fix the update bug..
