Hello,

Im also having a challenge with my HP deskjet 3820 printer. I can't locate the installation CD and have been unable to print from my Windows 10 laptop.

I have followed the steps to add a printer manually but i don't find any driver for 3820. The closest i saw was 3830 and when i tried with that, the test print was blank.  Can anyone please help?

Best regards,

@Deloz

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you are unable to install the driver and software for your HP 3820 Printer,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you attempt using the HP website to download the drivers?

(Click here to find and install, if you haven't attempted it yet)

That said, if the driver has been installed previously but stopped working:

I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and retry, follow the steps below:

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, use the same link mentioned about to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it.

Keep me posted,

@Riddle_Decipher,

Many thanks for your support. I had attempted to download the driver from home website but couldn't find any for my deskjet 3820 printer on Windows 10(64bits) OS laptop.
I have also installed the HP tools and doctor diagnostics but still no luck. Please assist further.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hello, @Deloz

I see that you were interacting with @Riddle_Decipher. He is out of the office and I'd like to help 🙂

We do not have the Windows 10 drivers for this printer as this is an older model. You need to install the printer using the Windows built-in drivers.

Go to http://hp.care/2oSqtTW and follow "Step 3" to install the printer.

Thanks, I will watch for your reply!

Have a great day 🙂

Hello, @Deloz

Do not worry, I found a wonderful document to help you fix this issue.

Follow the steps listed here: HP printers - Windows built-in driver fails to install | HP® Support

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Cheers 🙂

I have been unable to proceed with the steps because i can't get the printer IP address despite attempts to run self-test or sample page on the printer.

When i run the self-test, the below is printed:

Hewlett-Packard Deskjet 3820 Series

Serial Number: [Personal Information Removed]

Service ID: 15227

FW Revision: SR420023

Total Engine Page Count: 1255

Mfg  0 - 2:   000000000000

T  val:   286

Error Code:  90020301

Please advice on how to proceed further.

Many thanks.

@Deloz

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I went through your printer specifications (Click here to view) and it looks like your printer doesn't have a wireless setup,

Hence, the best way to connect to your printer is via USB:

Connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable.

  1. Make sure your computer is turned on and connected to the Internet.

  2. Turn on the printer.

  3. Connect a USB cable to the USB port on the rear of the printer , and then to the computer.

  4. If a Found new hardware window displays, follow any prompts to install the driver, and then try to print.

    • If you can use your printer, your driver installed and you do not need to continue with the steps in this document. Continue to the frequently asked questions in this document for information on how to use the driver and troubleshooting tips.

    • If you cannot use your printer, continue to the next step.

Install the built-in print driver on a USB-connected computer with Windows 10 or Windows 8.

  1. Search Windows for devices, and then click Devices and Printers in the list of results.

  2. Click Add a printer.

    • If your printer is in the list, select it, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. You can now use your printer.

    • If your printer is not in the list, continue to the next step.

  3. Click The printer I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Select Use an existing port (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB), and then click Next.

  6. Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update.

  7. Click HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

  8. Click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. You can now use your printer.

  9. Disconnect the printer USB cable from the computer, and then reconnect the cable. You can now use your printer.
