@Riddle_Decipher, i've gone through this route before now and it wasn't successful. 3820 is not listed as a model in either HP, Hewlett-Packard or Hewlett Packard model and that was why we are trying to use ip address route. Does your response imply that it's only wireless enabled printers that can be connected using ip address? Please confirm.

Many thanks for your support.

@Deloz

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

You've got that right, only wireless enabled printer can be connected using IP address,

And I'm afraid your printer doesn't support that feature.

That said, You may also check the following items to troubleshoot and resolve common connection issues:

Try these tips and procedures to help troubleshoot and avoid USB connectivity issues.

  • Restart the printer and the computer: Restarting the computer and the printer can clear possible error conditions.

  • Reconnect the cable: Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer.

  • Connect to a different USB port: Connect the cable to a different USB port on the computer.

  • Disconnect from a USB hub or docking station: If you are using a USB hub or docking station, try connecting the cable directly to the computer.

  • Try a different USB cable: Use a different USB cable. HP supports USB cables less than 3 m (9 ft 10 in) in length.

  • Disconnect other USB devices: If you have several USB-connected devices, such as another printer, the computer might not have sufficient power supplied to the USB ports to detect all of them. Disconnect any other USB devices that are not in use.

If the issue persists, please contact HP for further support as they should be able to take control of your PC and help you install it:

@Riddle_Decipher,

Thanks indeed for your support thus far. Sadly, it appears this case may not be resolved considering that 3820 is an old model and hp does not have any driver for it even on their site.

i guess i am left with no other option than to consider getting another printer.

@Deloz

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

To ensure we are on the same page, you've gone through the below information?

If your printer is not on the list, continue to the next step.

  • Click The printer I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

    Figure : Selecting Add a printer using local or network printer with manual settings

    Selecting Add a printer using local or network printer with manual settings
  • Click Next.

  • Select the port to be used by your printer, such as 'USB001' for a USB connected printer, and then click Next.

  • Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update.

I must let you know that this could be a windows issue and not the printer if the HP drivers are not being detected on your computer, I recommend you check this printer with another PC and let me know if that works before you give up on this printer.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
