HP Photosmart 8150
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I think that since a recent windows 10 update my PC no longer sees the Photosmart 8150 printer. I know that the printer works as I connected it and the same USB cord to my daughters windows 7 laptop and it will print from there. I have used the same printer with my desktop for several years using windows 10 and now it doesn't know it's connected. I've jumped through all of the update driver stuff but still nothing.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

Use this link for details on using the HP Print and Scan doctor: https://hp.care/2JyaC93

If the issue persists, let's do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.)  Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Hi Betty0610, Thank you for your reply...I tried your suggestion, deleting everything related to the HP Photosmart 8150 and then tried the restall method that you suggested. Unfortunately, it didn't produce results. I upgraded my desktop from Windows 7 (which I liked) to Windows 10 (which I've come to dislike for the most part) about 2-3 years ago. The printer worked fine under both OS's until just very recently. I've come to understand that it might be an update to Windows 10 that might be the problem. Like I mentioned above the printer worked for several years under Windows 10 until just recently. Now, I'm stumped, don't know what to do. I have a laptop that uses Windows 7 and the printer and USB cable both work with the laptop so I know it is not those two pieces of hardware. It has something to do with Windows 10. ??? Thanks a lot, I'll keep hoping for an answer as the printer is a good printer...John

Hi, thanks for your help, I really appreciate your time. I tried the built-in driver process several times but no success. What I got was windows popping up telling me that the printer was discovered and that it was installing it and then that it was ready to go. I then tried to print something and the printer wasn't listed. I looked in the control panel and the printer wasn't listed in the printer group but was listed in the "other" group with a weird icon. So, I removed the printer and tried the install again this time trying the "print page" choice. What happened then was that it printed to my other Epson printer/scanner and spit out three pages of goobly goop nonsense. So back to square one now. Again thanks a lot --- John

Try creating a local user account and try installing the drivers there: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/4026923/windows-10-create-a-local-user-or-administrator-acc...

Betty0610, I guess it's time to put up the white flag and surrender!!! I did what you suggested but I wasn't successful in getting the printer to actually print. I sent a test page to the printer but it automatically registered error-printing and nothing else. Maybe it's time for a new boat anchor??? Thanks... Have a nice weekend --- John

Where the instructions say, "Use an existing port (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB)," I do not have that port listed.
