Common problems for Connectivity Issues

cp1525nw

I have an HP CP1525nw color printer that I have never been able to connect wirelessly to my network. The user guide tells me to use the WPS button on my modem/router but my modem/routers have never had such a button so I was resigned to connecting my printer to the router using an ethernet cable. Of course that worked, but when I had to relocate my modem/router to a different part of the house I could no longer use an ethernet cable.

My solution was to buy and use a wireless extender near the printer and connect the printer to that, and that works, but is a pain in the neck. Is there some way to wirelessly connect the printer to my network? If so, what is it?

When I go through the setup pages on the (very small) lcd screen there is no entry that allows me to specify the network name, address and/or password so I can not see how to connect it to my local network. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @ManFromAz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Your printer and Wi-Fi seem to be playing a game of hide-and-seek, and it’s getting a little old, isn’t it? You’ve tried everything, WPS (which your router apparently ghosted you on), Ethernet (until distance became the villain), and even a wireless extender (extra credit for creativity!). But let’s see if we can finally get your printer to shake hands with your network the proper way, no more workarounds, no more headaches!

Your HP CP1525nw does support wireless printing, but since your router lacks a WPS button, you'll need to manually connect it to your Wi-Fi network. Here’s how to set it up properly:

Method 1: Wireless Setup via Printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Connect Temporarily via USB or Ethernet

  • If possible, connect your printer to your computer using a USB cable or Ethernet to configure wireless settings.

Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Find your printer's IP address:
    • Print a Configuration Page from the printer's control panel.
    • Look for the IPv4 address under the Network section.
  • Open a web browser on your computer and enter the IP address in the address bar.

Configure Wireless Settings

  • In the EWS, go to the Networking/Wireless section.
  • Select Wireless Setup Wizard (or a similar option).
  • Enter your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password manually.
  • Apply changes and restart the printer.

Disconnect Ethernet/USB and Test

  • Once the printer restarts, disconnect the temporary Ethernet or USB connection.
  • Try printing wirelessly from your computer.

Method 2: Wireless Setup via HP Smart App

  1. Download and install HP Smart on your Windows PC or Mac.
  2. Open HP Smart and select Add Printer.
  3. If your printer is not found, reset the network settings:
    • On the printer, go to Network Setup > Restore Defaults.
    • Restart the printer.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions in HP Smart to manually connect to your Wi-Fi network.

Additional Notes

  • Ensure your printer and router are on the same 2.4 GHz network (it doesn't support 5 GHz).
  • If manual setup doesn’t work, consider a static IP address for stability.
  • If all else fails, factory reset the printer and try the setup again.

Let me know if you need further clarification! 😊

Hopefully, your printer is now living its best wireless life, free from the shackles of cables and extenders. But if it’s still being stubborn, don’t worry, I’m here to help until we get this sorted. Because no one should have to run across the house just to hit “Print”! 🚀

Thank you for this information. Nothing else seemed to work, but this worked properly and I finally have my HP printer connected to my local internet wirelessly.

I don't understand why this information is not in the printer manual as it would have saved me several years of using an ethernet cable to make the connection. In any case I am grateful for this help.
